If you're a blogger, can you be sued for something one of your commenters says? If you use a pseudonym when blogging, can someone get a court order to reveal your identity? The Philadelphia lawyers' chapter of the American Constitution Society will be co-hosting the Tuesday night party. ACS members will be joining us and ACS chapter head Adam Bonin will give a short talk on the law regarding online defamation and when someone can use a lawsuit to out anonymous commenters and bloggers. If you'd like to read about the subject, here are articles from Corporate Counselor and Portfolio magazine, as well as PDFs of court decisions from Philadelphia (even if you aren't a lawyer, you have to read this one, it's hilarious and shockingly profane), Maryland, California, and Connecticut.
