An Obama political aide said that OFA will be housed at the Democratic National Committee, resolving a longstanding debate about whether the entity should be separate.
A press release prepared by OFA calls the organization "the next phase" of the Obama organization, and will offer "volunteers the continued opportunity to work for change in their communities by organizing in support of reform in Washington."
I trust the Obama people to use it correctly more than I trust Kaine, an unknown quantity, so I am glad it's a shared responsibility:
Campaign aides Jennifer O'Malley Dillon, Jeremy Bird and Mitch Stewart form triumvirate at the head of this new behemoth.
So the Obama staffers will run it for Obama's initiatives and Kaine will run it for the party development side.
Update: I was curious to see if the new domain name is up, so I did a WHOIS on "organizingforamerica.org", and it came back with "number of WHOIS requests exceeded." I figured they grabbed all the top-level domains, so I checked the .com and came up with:
They registered this domain on October 31, 2008. Assuming that this was the Obama campaign's doing, it's a pretty remarkable piece of foresight.
