That's hilarious. A correction though; they probably didn't blow up his shoes. They were testing for explosives, not exploding the shoes. That is, they weren't conducting "explosive tests" they were conducting "explosives tests."

I'd also bet that some of the shoe pieces have survived and are in the personal collections of the investigators. "hey honey, look what I brought home from work!"

When I get my stuff tested for explosives residue at the airport, they just swab it and analyze the particles. Bomb squads often blow up suspicious objects, which is what I assumed they did. Maybe they just cut into the soles to see if there was anything hidden in the heels. I prefer to think they took them out to a field and blew them up - or more likely, the chief cop on the scene stole them and sold them on ebay.
