The DNC has offered Florida and Michigan a couple ways out in compliance with party rules. First, they could hold second nominating contests, but Democratic leaders in both states reject that idea.
They don't want a do-over. What do they want? They want something that will give individual party insiders an opportunity to increase their personal influence, of course. They want to horse-trade:
Or they can appeal to the DNC's credentials committee, a 186-member body that usually operates in obscurity and has a complicated membership and rules process that will require deft maneuvering in this divided campaign.
Lovely. I guess it's time to see if Howard Dean is up to his job.
Jesus, what a mess. I hope Dean is up to his job too, but his initial handling of the issue doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Here's hoping the nomination is settle in some way that makes this issue irrelevant.

No matter what else, these people have to be swatted down. They can not be allowed to challenge the federal party's power, or we will never NEVER have a unified party. We will have 50 parties squabbling amongst each other like children.
