Sometimes it gets very, very vulgar. First, here's Atrios recalling the sage counsel of Tom Friedman back in 2003:
What they needed to see was American boys and girls going house to house, from Basra to Baghdad, um and basically saying, "Which part of this sentence don't you understand?"
You don't think, you know, we care about our open society, you think this bubble fantasy, we're just gonna to let it grow?
Well, Suck. On. This.
Okay.
That Charlie was what this war was about. We could've hit Saudi Arabia, it was part of that bubble. We coulda hit Pakistan. We hit Iraq because we could.
Then this past week we have Ted Nugent:
He was walking up and down the stage holding two machine guns, and he said:
"I was in Chicago last week, I said, "Hey Obama, you might want to suck on one of these, you punk!" Obama, he’s a piece of sh*t and I told him to suck on my machine gun! Let’s hear it for them. I was in New York and I said, "Hey Hillary, you might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch. And since I'm in California, how about Barbara Boxer? She might want to suck on my machine gun! Hey, Dianne Feinstein, ride one of these, you worthless whore!""
And just last week I was remarking to someone how male homophobia is often accompanied by a statement like, "I don't care if you are gay, just don't shove it down my throat!" (Whenever I hear it, I always imagine it's followed by either a little whimper of fear or the batting of eyelashes and a flirtatious, "You brute.")
Sexual fear and anger is the wellspring of conservative politics. The right-wing male mindset is all about either wanting to rape someone's mouth or fearing having their mouths raped. It's very simple. The GOP is truly The Party of Dicks.
