One day, I predict, when really high-speed internet is widely available, the internet will become like a million TV channels, which necessarily requires high production values. A lot of blogging will go that way, although not political blogging, I don't think, since it's so newsite and inter-blog link dependent. Plus, yeah, reading text into a camera doesn't seem to add much value.
Podcasting, though, seems viable for people who write short posts and then also read them (with changes to fit the format) in a podcast. That lets people who want to take their blogs to the gym or in the car figure out what they're interested in, and check the web page for links later.
