This year for the first time I filed my taxes entirely over the web. I used TaxAct and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's site, both free. (The IRS has a list of other free filing sites out there, too.) That left me with PDF versions of my returns on my computer.
Now, I am going to scan the forms and receipts and destroy the originals. To make it complete, someday I want them to send me the W-2 and 1099s and such via email. Even better, the software should be able to pull the information into the return automatically for me.
and then when your computer dies with all your tax records on it you can start a new life! woo hoo!

I back up my data to CDs every month. Not perfect, but I don't think I'll lose anything until the perfect backup solution comes along.

I think that TurboTax, at least, already will pull your info from electronic W-2's...

Yeah, but I want it done already when I start preparing my return. Also, I want TurboTax or whatever to pull my data from MSMoney or Quicken or whatever I use and fill that data in, too. Also, I want this all to be free forever. And a pony!
