Giuliana Sgrena, the Italian journalist who was being held hostage in Iraq, was freed. She was on the way to the airport when the U.S. military fired on her and the Italian intelligence officer who was escorting her, killing the officer and wounding Ms. Sgrena.
They made a mistake, I am sure.
In other news, Eason Jordan still is out of work.
It's going to be interesting to see the Italian reaction to this.

BBC is reporting that no one in Italy is prepared to be "understanding" about an innocent mistake.
On the other hand, check out Michelle Malkin's reaction; somehow the whole incident confirms how right the right was about Eason Jordan, and did you know that Ms. Sgrena was a well-known anti-war leftie, and no, it doesn't occur to Malkin that insisting on pushing that front and center might tend to raise more questions about why our military was so unaware of her release and the likelihood that she'd be on her way to the Baghdad airport in a hurry, than it does about Sgrena, and the intelligence officer who gave his life protecting her.
