Yea, it's getting pretty damn sickening. But this is the psychology at play and it's damn tricky to evade. Silence is taken the same as a nasty remark so there's precious few ways out of this. My dim mind can't see any.

(When Carter or Clinton dies, I am sure they'll be urging people to spit on the coffin.)

You realy don't understand conservatives at all do you? When Carter dies we will be respectfull. Why? Not because we like him but because of the office he held. When Clinton dies we will likely be silent until people the news people attempt to enshrine him as the second coming of Christ. Even then, we will try to be respectful.

Hate, disrespect, and outright deciept are tools of the left.

When Clinton dies we will likely be silent until ... the news people attempt to enshrine him .... Even then, we will try to be respectful.

I would take this a little more seriously if there was any historical evidence at all of conservative respect for the office of presidency, when it is held by someone of another party.

Was it not a Republican, Sen. Jesse Helms, who warned that Pres. Clinton should not venture onto military bases in North Carolina because he might get hurt? How respectful is that?

Wasn't it a Republican, Newt Gingrich, who on the eve of being elected Speaker of the House, said that it was the Democrats' fault that Susan Smith killed her kids?

Wasn't it a Republican Congress and operatives who conducted a multi-year, multi-million dollar witchhunt to try to drive Clinton from office? Is that what you consider respectful?

Wasn't it Republicans who spread rumors and slander about Clinton being a drug trafficker, rapist and murderer?

You have to be seriously blinkered not to realize that the national Republican party, and many state and local Republican party organization, has used a decades-long strategy of vilifying Democrats as traitors, degenerates and criminals (or criminal lovers) in order to rouse the Republican base and demonize Democrats in the eyes of unaffiliated voters. That strategy was begun under Nixon and popularized by later Republican presidents. To a great extent, regrettably, that strategy has worked. In comparison, the Democratic party, while not run by angels, is a model of civility.

You see, one of the most amazing tendencies by liberals is the where they start an argument based on a false assumption and then build on it.

The discussion began with you claiming that republicans would ask people to spit on the coffins of Carter and Clinton. (That's disrespect for the office, and for life - Conservatives will not do this kind of thing.)

That's the initial false assumption that showed your lack of knowledge about conservatives.

The second false assumption is that conservatives disrespect the office when someone from the other party holds it. In fact it has been the opposite. We respect the office enough that we do not like to see it held by a suspected rapist, misogynistic, philandering, bed room renting, word parser whose very campaign for presidency began by breaking an oath.

Fact is: the only example of spitting as a means of political discourse belongs to the left.
Viet-Nam war protesters spitting on returning soldiers because they believed the lies told by John Kerry and Jane Fonda.

we do not like to see it held by a suspected rapist, misogynistic, philandering, bed room renting, word parser whose very campaign for presidency began by breaking an oath.

QED. Thanks for proving my point.

By the way, the Vietnam-vets-being-spit-on thing is a myth.

"By the way, the Vietnam-vets-being-spit-on thing is a myth."

I wish that it was. :(
My father is a Viet Nam vet. I spent much of my youth in and around veterans organizations. Spit was perhaps some of the nicest of materials they received upon returning home.

It's a myth. The overwhelming majority of Vietnam vets - 96% in one poll - said they received a positive or neutral reaction when they came home. It's only right-wing lies and movies like Rambo and Coming Home that perpetuate the story of spitting antiwar activists.

I should have known, first hand accounts mean nothing to liberals. You'd think I'd have learned that from Paula Jones, Juanita Broderick, Kathleen Wiley, Elizabeth Grayson, and the others. It's only those accounts that are reported by Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings etc... and are backed up by poll results that you pay any attention to. 99.9% of women in America have never been assaulted by Ted Bundy, I guess he wasn't guilty.

Sure, those guys might have been lying and the tears forced in order to make an impression on their colleagues and a young guy reading his comic books. Yeah, that makes you feel better right?

You, sir, are full of shit.

This is neither here nor there but I read on CNN.com today that they are people pushing to put Reagan on the ten-dollar bill, the dime and the twenty. Hey, why don't we stop calling it money and just call it reagan.
If they put his mug on our currency I'm moving to Canada. Canada puts birds and stuff on their money not dead white guys.
