Via Where We're Bound, this from River:
For me, April 9 was a blur of faces distorted with fear, horror and tears. All over Baghdad you could hear shelling, explosions, clashes, fighter planes, the dreaded Apaches and the horrifying tanks heaving down streets and highways. Whether you loved Saddam or hated him, Baghdad tore you to pieces. Baghdad was burning. Baghdad was exploding... Baghdad was falling. April 9 is the American Occupation Day.
When the last American troop pulls out of Baghdad, leaving either the U.N. or Iraqis to clean up the mess, ordinary citizens will line the streets and scream at them, maybe throw some rocks. Not because the Americans deserve it. Not because Saddam was a good guy and they miss him. Not because everything America does is wrong. But because our troops are the ones who invaded, and you always want to kick out the invader. Always.
Uh huh. I bet they really miss Saddam.

Invaders? No. Liberators? Yes.
