Hypothetically, if the McCain campaign pulls out of Pennsylvania because it's a lost cause, like they did in Michigan, where should a volunteer think about going to help make a difference? Lots of people drove or flew into Philadelphia from places like New York and Maryland to help here; I would like to return the favor. Ohio? Virginia? North Carolina?

Northern Virginia. Right around the metro stops in Arlington. Public housing in Alexandria. Students at George Mason.

I agree that Virginia is likely to need help -- either around Liberty University (shudder) or even further out in Ralph Stanley country.

I would say the outer burbs in Northern Virginia -- Fairfax and Loudon Counties. The local Dem parties have Arlington and Alexandria covered but the outer burbs are tending strongly blue but are by no means the one-party states that "commie country," as McCain's brother called Arlington and Alexandria, are.

Why don't we just phonebank into those states?

Yep. That's a good option, too. I assume, maybe incorrectly, that an in-person contact is more persuasive. Also, I am going to do poll watching.
