I ... I ... what?
John McCain will say later today in New York that he's suspending his campaign in response to the economic crisis, and is calling on Barack Obama to delay Friday's debate.
What? Really? Does he need a fucking nap?
Update: This isn't 9/11. People have already rejected the notion that it's such an emergency that we have to provide $700 billion for one man to spend in his sole discretion. It doesn't require legislation this week, or even anything approaching $700 billion to start.
You have to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time when you're running the country. You can't drop everything and rush off to spend all your time on an issue when other people - who have been working on the area for a long time - have the process of crafting a solution well in hand.
I just don't believe McCain's rationale - I think he's just aware he will have his ass handed to him on Friday night.
This just makes McCain look panicky, whether you accept his explanation or not.

One thing republicans excel at is setting and resetting the rules of the game and then watching the dems try to adapt. He knows the economic issue is tilting toward Obama in the polls. So, the result he would love is for Obama to shut up for a while to minimize that, to stop the momentum. So this is his attempt to do that while positioning himself as a "maverick" because he "cares" more about the economy than he does about politics, while trying to get Obama to agree to (or be forced to) shut up about how the republicans have fucking trashed the country over the last 8 years.
