Isn't it strange to see Democrats cursing him with the very wordplay that drove them up the wall in 2000?
Okay, see, it wasn't the wordplay. It was that the voting process was so creaky that huge numbers of people were effectively disenfranchised. It was the fact that our guy got more votes and lost. It was that Bush wanted power so badly he would stop at nothing. It was the nagging suspicion that something might be seriously wrong with the whole system - maybe wholesale fraud - and we'd never find out. As wordplay, "Sore/Loserman" was a playground taunt, too childish to be irritating. But it proved the Republican party's disregard for the legitimacy of the electoral process. What was enraging is that it confirmed and compounded our fears; the political system was broken, and half the country was too irresponsible to see beyond winning an election.
This situation in the Connecticut primary is very different. No matter what happens, I am confident everyone will keep in mind that preserving the integrity of the process is foremost. That's simply because in a Democratic primary, no Republicans will be involved.
