EschaCon 2005 in Philadelphia on Labor Day Weekend
Here is the EschaCon 2005: Press Release.
For immediate release
Eschatonians Meet in PhiladelphiaOn Labor Day weekend 2005, the readers of the political blog Eschaton will meet in Philadelphia for the first annual EschaCon.
Eschaton is the project of Philadelphia blogger Duncan Black, who posts under the moniker Atrios. It has emerged as one of the most impassioned and thought-provoking blogs on the left. In a recent article in The Philadelphia Enquirer, author Daniel Rubin noted that, “Atrios is no joke. By some measures - such as the site Blogstreet - he is the most influential blogger among the 13 million out there.” Eschaton routinely receives over 100,000 hits a day and has become an important testing ground for the legitimacy of political blogging: Black was recently called to Washington to testify in front of the Federal Election Commission on the issue of blogs and political speech.
EschaCon was originally conceived in order to create, in real time and space, the lively (and sometimes unruly) comments section at Eschaton. From its original social purpose, however, it quickly morphed into a tool for political organization. Formal programming now includes a panel on the potential for progressive blogging, including posters from Suburban Guerrilla and Dohiyi Mir, and a strategy session for the 2006 midterm elections. Several prominent regional and national politicians have also indicated an interest in attending.
