Nothing more evocative of this war for me than the officially-anonymous living honoring the anonymous dead.

Perhaps there are good reasons for the soldiers not to have their faces splashed on the internet ?
Kinda like reasons to be blogging anonymously? ;o)

What would those good reasons be, Mark?
I blog anonymously for a couple of reasons, but I don't see how they apply to soldiers in a picture.

How about the sheer number of wackos online ?
Posted by: mark safranski | May 02, 2005 at 04:23 PM
Indeed. There are lots of wackos online. Some of them have blogs. And it is in the realm of possibility, I suppose, that someone would see a picture of a soldier standing over or carrying a casket and then harass (or worse) the soldier or the soldier's family.
But once you start thinking that way, then it becomes okay to hide everything.
Anyway, what's much more likely is that psy-warriors don't want there to be iconic images of real, live soldiers standing over real, dead ones. Partly because the bad guys could put such images to use, but partly because they don't want the American public to see.

And funny how all the pictures of troops photo-opping with their Supreme Commander have readily visible faces...
