Well, This Should Send Jeff Jarvis Into a Tizzy
Bush's clever campaign strategy seems to be to appeal to undecided voters by admitting the incredibly obvious (e.g., on global warming and Iraq post-war planning), but hoping his base (read: the incredibly stupid) don't notice that he says things like this:
When asked “Can we win?” the war on terror, Bush said, “I don’t think you can win it. But I think you can create conditions so that the — those who use terror as a tool are — less acceptable in parts of the world.”
So there you have it, kids, straight from the horse's ass. The Misnamed Global War on Terror is unwinnable. We're actually in a race to "create conditions" in order to make terrorism "less acceptable." How sensitive. How nuanced. How ill-suited is Bush to follow such a policy? Completely.
Update 8/31/04: Jarvis sinks to his knees before The Infallible One: "[Bush]'s right and it's right to say so: We will never be able to rest from this war. We will be on guard always. "
Unfortunately for him, Bush zagged while Jarvis was zagging. Today's Bushit: "In this different kind of war, we may never sit down at a peace table," Bush said. "But make no mistake about it, we are winning and we will win."

I saw the interview on tv this morning and could not believe my ears...more importantly, I've been blog surfing all day and seen nothing about this startling admission from the president of the united states on any of the so-called news blogs (i.e. drudge or instapundit.)
Maybe their heads are stuck too far in the sand.

It's the best part of Being George W. Bush. No one listens to what you say, until your supporters need to go back and find the right quote to buttress their argument of the moment.
