Advice for the Democratic Presidential Candidates

Prometheus 6 has the follwing outstanding advice for the people running for president on the Dem ticket:

I would like Mr. Dean and every Democratic candidate running for every office in the nation to please, please include white people when you run down the list of ethnicities you want to help out. If you don't say it the wingnuts assume you're excluding them. Or will claim you're excluding them, favoring minorities at the expense of the NASCAR dads (alias Angry White Men, who are, by the way, still angry for some reason). And the hordes without number that react rather than think end up opposing you because you didn't say their name.

Excellent advice, and not just for the reasons P6 gives. It's incorrect to assume that all whites feel included by the political process, because there are many who don't. They don't necessarily feel put upon for their ethnicity, but they would respond to a clear message: We are here for everyone.

How about advice for all the candidates, Dem or Rep, to stop pandering to any small group. Our focus should be on stating the priorities we have for the country - then undertake policies consistent with the priorities.

If they can't pander to groups, make a bunch of vague promises and then immediately forget them after being elected, they won't know what to do! Seriously, this is more about our discipline in holding the politicians accountable than about the politicians themselves.
